Takara may be the only Asian restaurant in CDA that has gained a large following not only locally, but with
travelers passing through on I-90 who are aware of the high quality food here. There is good reason for
this recognition, and I actually thought it was the best Japanese restaurant I had been to outside Seattle or
Las Vegas.
Takara is quite a bit more casual and inexpensive than most of the Seattle sushi restaurants. The interior looks much like an ordinary restaurant except for the large sushi bar in the corner. The sushi chef devotes full time to the sushi preparation, inspiring confidence that your meal will be top quality. I actually found the Sushi to be a little inconsistent; varying from great to OK (but never bad). The fish used here was fresher than would be expected this far inland. Even in Seattle there is some variability in fish quality, and such is to be expected here as well. Overall I was highly satisfied with the sushi. Salmon Teriyaki, though, was the best item I tried. The Alaska king salmon used here was similar to the fish I have found in high end Japanese restaurants. I am sure Takara is taking advantage of its location in the Northwest to secure a fresh supply of fish, and it is extremely rare that I have encountered fish of this quality at such a resonable price. The teriyaki sauce was a little thin, but did not detract from the enjoyment of the meal. |
