The general consensus among Oklahomans seems to be that Hideway serves the best pizza in the state.
In business since 1957, and with locations in OKC, Tulsa, Stillwater, Norman, and Edmond, they have to
be doing something right.
Don't let the fact that all the locations are in college towns lead you to believe that this is the typical college pizza joint. It is actually one of the tastiest and least greasy pizzas around. The Hideaway Red sauce is one of the key ingredients in making this pizza so good. This special marinhera sauce made with Hideaway's secret recipe is so flavorful I found myself trying to gobble up every inch of crust that was covered with it. The crust itself is very thick with an emphasis on flavor (it reminds me of some crusts I have had that came from New Jersey). Topped with Wisconsin mozzarella cheese, the basic pizza has enough flavor that I don't think you actually need any toppings (although a great variety are available). There is not much available here besides pizza, and it does not pretend to be anything other than a pizza joint, but this is honestly one of the best pizza joints you will ever go to. I don't think the pizza rises to the level of the goumet version that was served at the now defunct Tommy's, but Hideaway has the kind of pizza that you not only eat and enjoy, but talk about with your friends and not let escape from your mind until the next time you are able to make another trip. For the sake of your waistline I don't advise too many trips, but it is pizza that I genuinely think is among the best around. |
