Jumbo's menu looks impressive for a small Chinese restaurant located in a strip shopping mall. While many
nearby Chinese restaurants specialize in take-out orders, Jumbo serves a buffet and has a fairly nice dining
room (although the menu says "elegant dining area," I would not really call it elegant when they have CNN
playing on a big screen TV).
Jumbo has a few dishes that I think would appeal to the more "hard core" Chinese food fans, such as hot pot dishes. I wanted to try something less expensive, and opted for another of my favorites, Tofu Home Style. I was optimistic about it because of the variety of menu items and because of the fact that the food is MSG-free. What I received, though, was something truly mediocre. Usually at least one of the components (tofu, vegetables, and sauce) will be better than the others, but at Jumbo they were all very forgettable. I thought the worst part by far, though, was the tofu. It just did not have a very good flavor, and was not cooked enough. The Hot and Sour Soup was very good, although Oklahoma City sets a high standard, and there are quite a few restaurants that have better soup. The soup makes me think there must be other good dishes, but the tofu home style was not one of them. |
