With Cannon Beach becoming more and more saturated with expensive, high-end restaurants, Dooger's offers
a more reasonably priced "family dining" alternative. It is not cheap, but has better than average food at prices
that are fairly affordable even if you bring all the kids along.
With locations in Seaside, OR and Long Beach, WA, Dooger's maintains a fairly even standard of food quality (you might even call it "chain food"). I did find some indications of food tasting as if it came from a chain, but the best items to get are the ones from the special menu, particularly if there is a fresh fish Catch of the Day. I have not found it to be great fish as one would find in fine restaurants in Seattle, but it has tasted fresh, and was far superior to the fish usually found in the Southwest (even in fine dining seafood restaurants). The specials usually include Northwest standbys such as salmon and halibut, and you usually cannot go wrong with these choices. The Halibut Fish and Chips were good when I first started eating at Dooger's, but the last ones I had were greasy and really did not have a good flavor at all. This helped confirm my belief that if you eat at Dooger's you should get the "catch of the day" (even though it is usually the most expensive item on the menu). Salads are good, as is typical in the Northwest. Not to be missed is dessert with Marionberry Cobbler and Tillamook Ice Cream. |
