La Grande has limited options for Chinese food, and Golden Harvest seemed to be one of the more popular
places. I thought the amount of business it had the time I went was probably a good sign.
Golden Harvest specializes in Cantonese food, meaning that it did not have spicy Sichuan and Hunan style dishes. However, this was the Americanized type of "Cantonese" food with the typical sweet and sour and chow mein dishes. If they served the more authentic Cantonese dishes found in Seattle's International District, I could not tell from my visit. I thought the food tasted fine, and it did not give me a MSG after-effect. However, it was not very exciting, and I have had better. At the time I was trying to stick to a vegetarian diet, of which Golden Harvest was almost totally lacking in options. This, along with the fact that there were no spicy dishes and that my food was not that great, left me disappointed. The truth, though, is that Golden Harvest does not have bad food, just not what one could find in larger cities. |
