El Caporal is part of a chain of Mexican restaurants found mainly in towns close to I-90 east of Seattle.
Although most Mexican restaurants adapt the food to local tastes, El Caporal goes to great efforts to
make sure no Northwesterner is exposed to the slightest bit of chile, or anything that might "burn" the
mouth or tongue.
My sarcasm of this place is not directed towards Northwesterners, but rather at the restaurant. I know local residents who do not like El Caporal any more than I do, and I think the restaurant has misjudged how they should be preparing the food. The restaurant is not totally bad--it does have good cheese and tastes fresh. I thought it had good promise, and as I tried different items I kept anticipating the one that would really be authentic and known as El Caporal's "special dish," but it never came up. Probably the worst part of El Caporal is that it did not even have a spicy salsa to serve on request as a lot of Mexican restaurants do. |
