China 2009

By Al Wong

This is my experience in Beijing, China in the Summer of 2009. If you came to this webpage first, it's better if you start from the beginning of the story.

[Panda Entrance]

At Chengdu

This is the entrance to the Panda Research Center in Chengdu. Note how empty it is. There's a reason for this. It's mid-afternoon and the temperature is well over 100 million degrees and the humidity is like 100%. It seems most locals know the giant pandas will not be outside in this sweltering hot weather so no one is visiting this place.

Except tourists who don't know any better and are duped by their tour guides to come here at this time. It was really bad. We hardly saw any giant pandas at all.

Evidently, the best time to see the giant pandas roaming outside is in the mornings when the weather is cooler. However, no one told us that today.
