China 2009

By Al Wong

This is my experience in Beijing, China in the Summer of 2009. If you came to this webpage first, it's better if you start from the beginning of the story.

[Weaving Loom]

At Chengdu

This is very interesting. This is a large and complicated silk weaving loom and it takes at least two people to operate it.

The person sitting above adjusts the pattern to be weaved. The person sitting below does the actual weaving. The machine works in a really complicated fashion and is hard to follow. I studied it briefly but couldn't understand how it works. Silk threads are coming into the loom every which way. It looks like some of the threads are not connected to the fabric being weaved!
