China 2009

This is my experience in Beijing, China in the Summer of 2009. If you came to this webpage first, it's better if you start from the beginning of the story.

[Su Causeway Statue]

At Su Causeway at West Lake in Hangzhou.

This statue is at the entrance of the Su Causeway. When the tour guide brought us here, I had no idea of the significance of this place. His explanation wasn't very clear.

After I got back home in the USA, I did some googling and this is what I found out about the Su Causeway. It is one of the causeways in West Lake in Hangzhou. In fact, its whole history is tied to West Lake.

The statue represents the famous Chinese poet, Su Shi, who became governor of Hangzhou. He created the Su Causeway, which was named after him, by ordering the digging of an irrigation ditch for the local farmers suffering from drought.

The Su Causeway is now a pleasant, park-like walkway for tourists and locals. There's a definite party vibe here.
