6/30/99 Tortoise Shells at the Central History Museum, Beijing
These tortoise shells are embedded in a large rock.
Inscribed on these tortoise shells are the oldest known
Chinese writing. The writing is approximately 5,000-6,000
years old.
Of course, the writing is more pictorial
than modern Chinese characters. It was pretty neat to see it
as I had read about this before in my studies.
I apologize for the poor quality image.
First of all, the museum interior is not well lit.
This particular exhibit is located in a dark section
of the room with no direct lighting. And it's behind glass.
A flash would not have helped because of the glass.
