I love this picture of the Great Wall. Not only does it
show the wall snaking about into the right background,
but there is a modern concession stand marked by
the yellow umbrella. It's the contrast of both
ancient and modern forces.
What this picture doesn't show you is the amount of
effort it took to lug that umbrella (plus sale items like
water, soda, postcards and magazines)
to that far part of the Wall. Just walking up and down the
Wall with a camera was tiring. Private enterprise is alive
and well here.
Note the smog in the background. Yes, it was smog.
The current temperature was about
100 million degrees Farenheit at the time.
