Tacoma Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society

If you live within driving distance of Tacoma/Puyallup, we invite you to join us for a monthly program about rhododendrons. You don't need to be a member to come and check us out. All people who are interested in rhododendrons are welcome, whether you are just beginning to learn about the plants or have a lifetime of experience with them.

Our members include casual gardeners, avid hobbyists, well-known hybridizers, nursery owners, and many others. If you ever wondered, "How do I prune a rhododendron?" or "How do you take cuttings?" or "What is this flower?", just ask one of us.

Meeting Information

Besides meetings, the Tacoma Chapter has some special projects for those interested. In the spring of each year, we sponsor a rhododendron truss show at the Puyallup Fairgrounds as part of the Spring Fair. This past year, we had over 500 trusses entered.

In 1967, our Chapter established the Rhododendron Garden at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. We have received two substantial grants in recent years from the American Rhododendron Society for restoration and new plant acquisition.

In 1993, we hosted the Annual Convention of the American Rhododendron Society. About 1000 people from around the world came together in Tacoma to share their knowledge and passion for these beautiful plants.
