When the snow gets deeper, I pack it with my garden tractor. This gives a harder surface for the two front tires, with softer snow for traction with the knobby rear drive wheel. |

I could maintain 10 miles per hour on hard packed snow. In dry powder, I could still fly along pretty well without a trail, but when it got wet, it was very slow with more than two inches. Often I needed the full power of the forward stroke, and had to back pedal to get in position for another power stroke. It didn't take much of that for me to head back for the tractor trail. |

With freezing rain on the surface, it got more difficult for the tractor with its turf saver tires. I got stuck several times packing the trail in these conditions. |

The trike, however, nagivated the uneven ground easily, as long as I stayed on the tracks. When I slid off, though, I usually got mired down. |
Frost ogres appear on a 15 degree night, telling me I'm crazy to be out here in this weather. |
