This is my first rhododendron bench with the bark left on. Some of the living branches in this Lavender Girl are incorporated into the bench design, so it was appropriate to also have bark on the cut pieces. (I was also getting tired of rasping all that bark off.) The end view below gives another perspective on the combination of living and non-living components. |
The seat back in this bench is redwood, recycled from remodeling one of our bathrooms. Front trim is fencing. The seat and seat frame are cedar from the lumber yard reject pile. You can often get great furiture cedar by asking for grayed boards. The aged wood is usually hard to sell, and it is what I wanted for these benches.
