-> Hi Everyone:
->
-> My name is Marilyn, from New Jersey, and I am new to this list as
-> well as new to using a vent. I had polio at the age of 4 in 1953. I
-> have a paralyzed diaphragm in addition to post-polio syndrome which
-> mainly effects my breathing. I started using the PLV-100 vent in
-> July and it has made a tremendous difference in my life. I am now
-> able to use it the entire night and wake up refreshed and with NO
-> headaches. Physically, I've adjusted to it very well. Emotionally,
-> I'm still having a tough time.
Hello, Marilyn! Welcome to the list. As a person, who has used
a vent full-time since 1983, I can very relate to the emotional
adjustment that goes along with vents. Like a lot of things about being
disabled, the first year or so is the hardest time. After that, it
begins to get noticably better.
I can promise you one thing, though. It does get easier with
time. Eventually, you will probably even look at your vent as if it was
a good friend. That is how I have come to look at mine. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Blane
