A very recent article of RN magazine has an in depth article written about
vent humidification.
You may e-mail me at Cindysan13(AT)AOL.com and i will try to arrange to
send
it to you. Cindy Sandene, RN

C1-2 sci here, no humidification here with exception of HME filter. The
humidification was too much even turning down the heat on cascade. This works
just fine for me. Each person is different though. Some may require
additional humidification. Also if secretions become thick, which doesnt
happen we also use the lavage with saline bullets and increase water intake.
Either drinking more or through J-tube, which is only used for additional
nutrition because appetite is not good enough to eat enough. Am on vent 100%
of the time due to injury, but dont need additional O2. Have been on vent
since 1992 due to automobile accident and on own since 94 with assistance of
24 hour PCA's and have traveled via van and airplane all over since then.
Have been on LP6 and LP6plus the enitre time.
Talk with cuffless trach now, had cuffed but left deflated to talk. At first
attempted passy muir, with little luck and a goofy talking trach that someone
had to hold finger on so could talk. Now talk when I want not when someone is
around to hold finger on valve.
