Sue,
Oh such heart attack you give! Uh, you can't be inflating the cuff
at all when using the passey muir in-circuit. Ay de mi! Holy inflated
human, Batman!! Second of all, the passey valve will not exhale for
you. You must force yourself to exhale through your mouth or nose
the second you get a full breath. It took maybe a total of 40-50hours
to train myself to do that. If you must use a cuffed trach, it must be
overly deflated, keep forcing every ounce of air out, before using
valve. Your trach size may also be too big around. Talk to your
doctor about that one. I too had a build up of air. Now I can
create a build up when I need it, and let it out & disregard it
when I don't need it. Kind of like synthetic Romulun Ale (Star
Trek). Check out the Vent User Website from this list for
the Passy-Muir homepage & by all means, read the directions
before ever using the valve.

ps- No Inflatable Humans, Please!!:-) Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor,
not a parade float! (Dr Bones, McCoy, maybe...)
