I wouldn't think that you'd have any problems at all in getting this kind of
authorization for Kristen. Because of all the laws (maybe each state is
different, but I believe this is nationwide) today that actually bend over
backwards for children with any kind of problem, public schools MUST give
access to everyone. Kristen is even coming with her own nurse so I don't see
how this could possibly be a problem. If the school does hesitate, I believe
that you have the law on your side. (In our local school district a few
years ago, the school had to invest in window air conditioners to accommodate
a little boy with severe allergies. In my daughter's school, a child comes
everyday with his guide dog. )

The actor Christopher Reeve has helped a great deal in making the general
public aware that just because somebody might be on a vent doesn't mean that
he/she can't make valuable contributions to society.

I've been reading with interest your posts regarding Kristen. I, too, use a
vent; I use mine at night for sleeping. I wish you and Kristen all the best.
How lucky the other kids in the school are to get to know Kristen this year!
She will have a profound effect upon everyone and will help each person --
child or adult -- she has contact with. Keep us posted as to her progress.
