Dear Joanne,

Amen to this! I really liked what you said about everyone having unique
needs which must be met in ways that are best for the individual. I
discovered long ago that while many other people had polio as children and
developed scoliosis as a result, we each have our own unique body chemistry,
genetic makeup, etc. Our bodies respond differently to treatments and we
each cope with things according to our past experiences in life. In the
past, to generalize or to compare my recovery or situation to another person's
only led me to frustration and anxiety. Lists such as this one are valuable
to me because I can learn about other options that my doctor perhaps didn't
know about or failed to communicate to me. I can also discover how others
cope with complicated medical situations that come up, and I gain strength
from their story.

Kristen is so lucky to have you! You seem to be extremely in touch with her
complicated medical situation and are able to articulate what you need to say
effectively and precisely. Again -- I wish you well.
