Hypertension

During periods of extreme stress, my blood-pressure will soar. I have
been in a terribly stressful situation (deaths in the family & other
awful things) since April. The problem is, I can't tolerate on-going
medication which is a problem for many polio survivors. The last drug,
Diovan, gave me no horrendous side-effects but it lowered my pressure too
much! Mon. the cardiologist switched me to 1 mg. of Cardura. I feel
awful. I have tried many hypertension drugs because they also control
migraines. I couldn't tolerate any of them. They cause severe weakness,
blurred vision, shortness of breath(just what a vent user needs!) Do any
of you polio survivors have hypertension? Mine is all stress induced. The
doctors & nurses have a hard time even taking it since my arms are
paralyzed. The family doctor took the pressure in my arms so hard it left
bruises. I told them to take the pressure in my legs. They couldn't get a
reading in the right leg(polio leg) so the doctor said I had a blockage
in the aorta. I referred myself to a cardiologist. He did an
echocardiogram and my heart is fine. Any suggestions out there? I just
want to feel good again. Thanks!
