Hi Karen! I want to welcome you to the list, too. I am a polio survivor; I had
it as a child in 1952. In '89 I had a trach and now am on a vent to sleep at
night or whenever I go down for a rest or nap. Like Becky described to you,
while I'm up I don't need to be on my vent. I deflate the cuff of my trach
tube and plug it at these times. It's possible for me to live a fairly active
life this way. I'm also married and have one 16-year-old daughter.
