1997 What's New?
What's New Al's Wild Web Page

December 13, 1997
  1. I'm famous again! I just discovered my personal page is listed under Magellan's Internet Guide: Featured Reviews: Best Tours They rated my site with 4 stars!

Thank you Magellan! But next time, please tell me about it! I just stumbled across your listing in my wanderings. I have no idea how long it has been there. From the description, it appears to have been put there more than a year ago as the poolside picture of me in the Philippines was moved from the main page then. In fact, I wish people would tell me if they link to my web pages. Thanks.

  2. Put my Christmas wreath up. It's that time of year again!

  1. In my Webbing the Night Away page, added a link for my buddy Bob under My Wild Friends.

  2. Changed the phone number area code from (818) to (626) for Hummingbird Software.

  1. I'm famous! My Spam Alert! Samsung/Sailahead Hoax?! web page was cited in the MicroTimes! (September 17, 1997, issue #169, page 154, first column) The funny thing is the author/publisher didn't tell me they were going to cite this web page. I found out quite by accident from a friend.

  2. Added a final entry on my comedy adventure with the Maxtech notebook computer. The ending is just and very amusing!

  1. Added a few updates to Spam Alert! Samsung/Sailahead Hoax?! Also added another page for the email I've been getting on this subject. The general consensus is this was all a hoax.

  2. Because I've been getting a lot of the same questions about how Fee Saver (TM) reads legal bills, I decided to add a pictorial processing flowchart page to help people understand this procedure. The odds are this will not make these questions stop but I had to make the effort. :)

  1. Wrote a new article, Spam Alert! Samsung/Sailahead Sucks. This is hot! Read how a large company spams the Net, denies it and then tries to enforce its spam by ignorant lawyer intimidation tactics! It looks like the start of a classic comedy!

  2. Updated My Writings page. Took out most of the graphics. It will make the page load faster and perhaps promote more traffic.

  1. Updated my No Spam! page.

  2. Added a few more links to Webbing the Night Away!

  1. Put up a simpler, cooler main page for Hummingbird Software. Also just learned Javascript(!) and decided to implement that highlight the current menu item thingie that's the fad nowadays. Learning Javascript was pretty easy for me as it's similar to C and Java although I think it's weird Javascript uses Pascal's write() and writeln(). I held off learning Javascript for a long time because it wasn't clear to me this language was here to stay. Also at first, Netscape Communications didn't really provide adequate documentation for it.

  2. Added lots more spam chaff to selected HTML pages. Spammers take note. Your email grabbers are being fed bad addresses designed for this futility.

August 1, 1997
  1. Decided to be more legible with my Hummingbird Software logo. Before it was just a bird-flower image with no company name text. I think this makes a better logo.

  2. Added spam chaff to selected HTML pages. The amount of spam I have been receiving has gone way up this year and it's time I get serious about fighting back. The only disadvantage is the chaff adds about 3K to each page and this amount can only grow.

  1. Did a massive link addition to Webbing the Night Away. A sampling of links are: Blacklist of Internet Advertisers, Zen Stories (more stories), Jello, Mars Pathfinder Cutout Model, Hong Kong 1997 Reunification, TV Guide Listings, Antique Vibrator Museum, Carnivorous Plants FAQ and Project Gutenberg (updated link). I probably will randomly add more links when my time allows.

  1. Updated and expanded my Hummingbird Software page and the Legal Auditing page. Added a contact form and a client list of web pages I've done as Hummingbird Software.

  2. Finally got around to checking all the links in Webbing the Night Away as some links have gone bad. Will add more interesting links soon.

  3. Got rid of the IAudit counter in my Public Service Announcements. The counter was so slow to load, it was more of a nuisance than a feature.

  4. I inadvertently resetted the counters on my pages on July 2, 1997. Oh well, it is interesting to see what pages more people look at most. I see my half-naked picture in my personal page is taking more hits than any other subpage. I find this amusing.

  1. Updated the Hummingbird Software page and the Legal Auditing page. Both pages needed a face lift too.

  2. Finally split up this What's New page into yearly segments. This page was getting longish to load. The previous years can still be accessed at the bottom of this page.

  3. Updated my personal pages too. Since no one has spotted the subtle change to the Da Vinci's Man-Square-Circle sketch (no one has commented on it anyway), I will now tell the world the man is wearing sunglasses and is carrying a bottle of suntan lotion! (Apologies to Mr. Da Vinci.) Did you notice it before?

  1. In Web Pages Al Has Created and/or Maintains, added a new page I wrote for South Pasadena Travel

February 4, 1997
  1. In My Writings page, added a graphic for my Why The Joy Luck Club Sucks. article.

January 30, 1997
  1. In My Writings page, added another article about Why The Joy Luck Club Sucks. This will probably cause quite a stir :) I'll put up a graphic for the article soon.

  2. Oh yes. I took down the Christmas wreath soon after New Year's day.
