This honey locust tree broke right at the base, where it is resprouting. In a few years, it will provide shade for this bench. This is my second mound bench. The perspective changes dramatically with only a few dtional feet of elevation.
The steps, footrests, and supports for the bench were cut from the honey locust trunk, while the back support was fashioned from one of the tree's large branches. Seat and back were leftovers from douglas fir beams from our Orting house. Left outside for 27 years and still solid as new, these timbers show how douglas fir can resist rot as long as it is kept off the ground.
