A light dusting of snow filters through the rhododendron leaves to the interior path below. On a sunny day, the dark tunnel under the plants opens up repeatedly to splashes of sun in the clearings.

From the gravel path, snow highlights the structure of dogwoods and Japanese maples. dwarfed by the towering pines while reaching through the rhododendrons.

This Japanese willow, with late winter branches tinged in pink, suddenly appears around a curve in a narrow lawn.

Bending with snow over a perimeter path, this black bamboo leans heavily toward the ground.

The sound of snow falling on bamboo leaves is one of the treasured sounds of the Japanese.
