Hi!
I should first of all come clean, I am trying to get my GP interested in me
using some kind of night time "assisted breathing", as I realise that I
will need it sooner rather than later, and I'd rather it wasn't a panic.
Good thinking, after two months of trying, I'm still no closer to actually
getting anywhere!!
I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which is usually split into three
categories. Because of when I was diagnosed, the crazy specialist couldn't
decide on which type I have! I went to a "special" school, first a day
(normal), then when I was 12, a boarding school. I hated it, and as soon as
I turned 16, I left and went to a mainstream college. I then went into
hospital for 10 months whilst they deliberated over whether I was up to a
spinal fusion or not - and the answer was yes! However, I feel a bit duped,
as I really was expecting a nice straight back, and in the end, it was just
a stable and very curvaceous one! Still, it has kept me alive for a lot
longer, so I'm not complaining.
So, I use an electric wheelchair, and have done so since I was eight. I'm
trying to get a reclining one - I feel like a bit of a granny in the
afternoons, and would love to be able to have a brief snooze without the
hassle of getting out of the 'chair (the hassle includes using a hoist, and
a fair bit of pain).
I live with my partner, but because of the way things work over here, we
have to keep it secret, otherwise the government would cut my benefits. We
also have 6 cats, and a German Shepherd (all of whom seem to think I am the
most comfortable place to sleep!).
How about you?
I'll send this now, as my arms are getting a bit tired.
Take care,
Gina
