You will begin the game on Avalon,
though you will most likely have spent time in
the culture of your choice.
You must be pure fey, no hybrids please.
Also, do not have any major ties to the
actual characters from the show (no literal Children
of Oberon, for instance).
No gods or ultra-powerful mythic personalities
(on only 200 points for designing a
character, you won't be able to afford it). You will
be one of the more minor
members of Avalon's court.
No actual characters from the show,
TGS, or other fanfic will be permitted as PCs (in
the case of fanfic, if you are or have the permission
of the author, that may be
allowable but is not recommended ... just in case).
Introduction:
It is a time of darkness. It is a
world of fear.
On Avalon?
Yes, on Avalon.
Oberon has been tricked and enspelled,
sleeping an enchanted sleep in the Hollow
Hill. Only the kiss of his ladywife Titania can rouse
him.
But Titania has been bested and captured
by her age-old foe and rival, the sea witch
Sycorax.
Bound by chains of magic-nullifying
iron, guarded by the Dire Wyrm Voshnathgor,
the Queen and her chosen heir, Prince Alexander, are
imprisoned in the Cave of
Torment.
Now Sycorax rules Avalon. Her reign
is one of corruption, perversity, and cruelty.
Most of the Third Race are either indifferent or actively
currying her favor, and no
one dares speak out against her. Not anymore. Not after
the gruesome things that
happened to the last ones who tried.
One small group of rebels, you among
them, want to see Sycorax ousted and the
proper rulers of Avalon restored.
You know that the only way to do this
is to free Titania. You also know that to free
Titania, they will need the help of gargoyles.
But there's a problem ...
Being a member of the Third Race is a racial advantage
that costs 125 points and
includes the following as a part of that cost:
Advantages:
Magery Level 1
Immortality -- includes Instant Regeneration, Immunity
to Disease and Poison,
and Unaging
Patron, Oberon and Titania -- ultra-powerful individuals,
appear rarely
Disadvantages:
Duty, Oberon and Titania -- all-encompassing, called
on rarely
Vulnerability, Iron -- takes extra damage from
iron weapons
Weakness, Iron -- loses magical powers if touching iron
Secret -- entire race believed to be myths and stories
In this game, you will automatically
have the added Disadvantage of the removal of
Oberon and Titania as Patrons, since they are utterly
unavailable to help you. This
will give you an extra +25 points, because the Duty remains
even when the Patron is
out of commission.
Another option is to "buy off" the
racial Disadvantages of Vulerability or Weakness
to Iron; by spending the appropriate number of points,
you may be of a Third Race
type that doesn't have those particular problems.
Many, many other supernatural Advantages
and Disadvantages are open to characters
of the Third Race. Pretty much anything goes, though
not everything might be doable
given the number of alloted points for character-building.
A lot of effects can also be created
by use of spells. It's up to you and the
character
conception to determine how you want to approach it.
Some suggestions might include:
Advantages --
Limited or Aspected Magery -- does your magic depend
on the phase of the moon?
Require that you sing your spells?
Only work when you're by yourself?
Natural Spellcaster -- when under great stress, you can
use spells you have not been
taught (Example: Fox vs. Oberon, in
"The Gathering")
Shapeshifter -- you are a were-something
Body of Air/Earth/Fire/Ice/Water/Etc. -- you either have
the ability to switch back
and forth between your 'natural' form
and your elemental form, or you are always
made of that substance, which can
be problematic
Flight --with wings or without
Growth/Shrinking -- increase or decrease your size
Insubstantiality -- you can become intangible, pass through
solid objects, etc.
Morph -- the 'doppleganger' advantage, you can shift
your body to take on the
appearance of any creature
Multiple Forms -- as demonstrated by Odin's bear form
and the Banshee's alternate
forms of a human girl and a big nasty
wyrm; you can have one or more multiple
forms, each with its own set of abilities,
statistics, etc.
Disadvantages:
Allergic Susceptibility -- like a vampire to garlic
Dread -- a magical or psychic aversion to something
Jinxed -- you carry bad luck wherever you go, though
it never affects you personally
(example: Odysseus)
Inconvenient Size -- your natural form is a lot bigger,
a lot smaller, or a lot more
weirdly-shaped than the norm (Anansi,
for instance)
Vulnerability -- certain forms of attack do extra damage
to you; if you are a were-
creature, silver might be a suitable
choice for this disad.
Weakness -- you take damage just being around a certain
substance (like Kryptonite).
Description
Just as your powers can include nearly
anything, so can your description. The
default Third Race member is most likely elfin
in aspect -- slender, humanoid,
pointed ears, fair skin.
But as we've seen, they vary widely.
From giant spiders to coyote-shaped dust devils,
from beauteous Nimue to stern Anubis, just about anything
goes.
