Nix the Water Sprite


    Nix is a water-sprite, preferring warm tropical salt water over fresh. He is humanoid
in appearance, except that his fingers and toes are webbed, his skin is a light shade of
turquoise, his hair is dark seal-sleek blue-green, his silvery eyes have nictating
membranes, and he has gills along the sides of his neck.
    He generally wears as little as politeness allows, and complains if he is required to
put on anything more than the equivalent of a swimsuit or loincloth.
    He is able to function equally well on land and water, though if he is out of water for
too long, his skin will dry and crack painfully. As Nix is a real baby when it comes to
getting hurt, he does his best to avoid it.
    Like a river or stream flowing along gravity's course of least resistance, Nix is fairly
easygoing. But when he has to make a decision, he dithers and dallies and just cannot
make up his mind.
    In the water, Nix is a superb swimmer, able to move twice as fast as any human. He
also has the ability to speak and hear underwater, even when conversing with people
on land.
    He is morbidly afraid of fire and becomes practically paralyzed with fear if there is
an open flame within a few feet. He's no warrior, though he does know how to use a
spear (mostly for fish-hunting).
    His hobbies include dolphin-riding and pearl collecting, and his spells are of
tremendous help. He knows a wide range of water spells, plus several related to fish
and marine life. His collection is worth a lot of money, not even counting the various
bits of sunken treasure he's picked up over the years.
    Nix cannot hold his booze; a single drink is enough to get him dancing around with a
lampshade, hugging complete strangers, and deciding that it's the perfect time to
regale everyone with his favorite water-related puns and jokes.
